As the summer draws to a close, I was delighted to take the time to celebrate the incredible work that students in Oakville are doing in our community through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Oakville riding received over $1 million to provide 352 jobs for students. I was able to visit local organizations across Oakville to see the amazing ways that these summer students are contributing to our community.
Oakville students have summer employment ranging from camp counselling, to manufacturing, to business administration, to engineering. This summer has not only provided them with relevant workplace experience but also the support to help pay for their post-secondary education.
The funding in Oakville is part of a Canada-wide increase to the Canada Summer Jobs program. Our government more than doubled the funding to the program, providing $220 million across the country for over 77,000 new summer jobs.
I encourage all not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and small businesses (50 employees or fewer) in Oakville to apply for the Canada Summer Jobs program as soon as applications are available for next summer. This is a valuable opportunity for employers and students alike, and we look forward to seeing the effects in our community for years to come.
